"Many of our members will have seen the recent press coverage about the horrific practice of hanging greyhounds and galgos at the end of the hunting season in some areas of Spain.  UGO condemn any such action and cannot condone such barbaric treatment of animals in a civilised country. "The Sunday People" newspaper are organising a petition to send to Tony Blair to put pressure on the Spanish Government to end this practice.  If you wish to support the Sunday People's petition, copy out the following onto plain paper :-

We the undersigned call on the British Government to put pressure on the Spanish Authorities to;
1. Make the killing of galgos a criminal offence.
2. Declare bloodsports illegal in Spain.
3. Set up official shelters for unwanted dogs.

Please also consider writing to the Bord na gCon to ask for efforts to be made to stop the export of Irish greyhounds to Spain and to your MP or MEP too.

Thank you"
